Touring Europe in the Springtime is the ideal time to visit many of Europe’s most popular vacation destinations. Before the peak summer crowds roll in, travelers can often find pleasant temperatures, fewer tourists, affordable lodging, and lower airfare rates. If you can’t do it this year bookmark this post for next year. These places won’t be going away.
Top 5 Destinations
Certainly not on many peoples radar. Zagreb is often skipped when tourists head directly to the beach, Zagreb has everything that makes up a good European city: architecture, gastronomy, music, and the arts. It is the largest city in Croatia it is best to explore on foot through many secret passages of his upper town. If you do not want to spend all your time in Zagreb you can always hit the coastal towns like Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka and Sibenik.
While the beach areas may be tempting. It is hard to beat Southern Spain. This historic area is known for bullfighters and flamenco dancing. You can’t go wrong visiting any of the top 3 cities, Seville, Cordoba, or Grenada. Springtime in Spain gives a rare opportunity to soak up centuries of culture with a few sangria’s every day.
Outside of Brussels, Bruges is easily the top tourist destination spot in Belgium. Often referred to as the Venice of the north because of the many canals, a canal tour is a great relaxing way to tour the city and wave at Americans who may have gotten locked out of a building on a canal bank. That actually happened to a very good friend of mine. Bruges has most of its medieval architecture intact, making it one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe.
Do not miss out on the great Belgian beers. Bruges has many great little beer spots. Be sure and check out Le Trappiste located in an arched basement and say hello to my good friend, the proprietor Regnier De Muynck.
You may love Lisbon for the monuments, ideal conditions for the practice of sport or delicious gastronomy. Even for all these reasons and more. One thing is certain: all the time in the world won’t be enough to enjoy all to do and see in the capital. Make your choice and let Lisbon blow your heart away. Be sure to take Tram 28 for a cheap way to see the city or take one of the many hop on hop off buses that tour the city.
Switzerland ski areas did not shut down because of Covid. Zermatt is famed as a mountaineering and ski resort of the Swiss Alps. While the springtime may be a little too early for most mountain hikes the Spring Skiing should be great. Zermatt is the highest ski resort in Switzerland and with a view of the Matterhorn it is truly spectacular. Zermatt is also the western terminus for the Glacier Express rail service connecting to St. Moritz
